Format conversion/Mesh ↔ mesh

STL to GLB converter (local)

Convert binary or ASCII STL to a glTF 2.0 binary GLB locally. The Worker streams the STL, welds shared vertices, and writes a single-mesh GLB for download.

No upload · File.slice() → Worker → chunked GLB output.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop one binary or ASCII STL file.

  2. 2

The Worker streams binary STL in 4 MiB slices and ASCII STL line by line.

  3. 3

Shared vertices are welded and the GLB writer emits a JSON chunk and a BIN chunk.

  4. 4

Download the GLB locally. No upload is performed.

What the numbers mean

Units

The GLB writer preserves the source numeric coordinates. glTF conventionally uses metres; the converter does not rescale, so confirm the unit in the target viewer.

Attributes

The GLB contains one mesh, one node, float32 positions, and uint32 triangle indices. STL has no materials or colors to carry over.

Printing notes

  • GLB is useful for web viewers and downstream glTF tools; check that the viewer understands the model's unit scale.
  • The output is a compact single-mesh GLB with no textures or materials.
  • Keep the original STL until the GLB is verified.
