Format conversion/Mesh ↔ mesh

PLY to OBJ converter (local)

Convert PLY to indexed OBJ in the browser. The Worker reads the PLY header, streams the declared elements, triangulates polygon faces, and writes an OBJ download without uploading the model.

ASCII, little-endian, and big-endian PLY are read element by element; extra vertex attributes are skipped.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop an ASCII or binary PLY file.

  2. 2

The Worker parses the PLY header and vertex x/y/z properties.

  3. 3

Face index lists are read element by element and fan-triangulated.

  4. 4

Download the indexed OBJ. No upload is performed.

What the numbers mean

Units

PLY is unitless. The converter preserves source coordinates without rescaling; confirm the intended unit before importing.

Attributes

PLY colors, normals, and extra properties are ignored. The OBJ contains positions, one group, and triangular faces.

Printing notes

  • OBJ shares vertices between faces and is often smaller than the equivalent binary STL for large meshes.
  • PLY faces can have more than three vertices; the output OBJ is always triangular.
  • Verify the OBJ bounds and orientation in your target tool before printing.
