PLY to STL converter (local)

Convert ASCII, binary little-endian, or binary big-endian PLY to binary STL locally. The header is read first, then vertices and face lists are consumed element by element in the Worker.

ASCII, little-endian, and big-endian PLY are read element by element; extra vertex attributes are skipped.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop a PLY file.

  2. 2

The Worker reads the PLY header and the declared element layout.

  3. 3

Vertex x/y/z values and face index lists are streamed; polygons are fan-triangulated.

  4. 4

The binary STL writer computes face normals and the file downloads locally.

What the numbers mean

Units

PLY is unitless. Coordinates are preserved without rescaling; confirm the intended unit before printing.

Attributes

Only vertex positions and face indices are used. PLY colors, normals, confidence values, and other attributes are skipped.

Printing notes

  • Binary STL is accepted by most slicers, but it repeats vertices per triangle; check the output size for large meshes.
  • PLY faces may be polygons; the converter triangulates them before writing STL.
  • Keep the original PLY until the converted STL is verified.
