Wall thickness/Resin

Resin minimum wall thickness check

Resin printers can reproduce extremely thin walls, but handling sets a practical floor. This profile uses 0.5 mm as the lower limit for small handled parts, 1.0 mm as the recommended target and 1.5 mm for structural or heavily handled models at 50 µm layers.

Lower the threshold to inspect a stricter target, or raise it to screen only very thin walls. The profile verdict stays anchored to its published range.

Wall thickness reads model coordinates as millimetres. Scale glTF/GLB models exported in metres before checking.

Assumptions
  • 50 µm layers with a standard resin and normal exposure
  • Small-to-medium parts; handled and unsupported walls need more
  • Supports and 2–3 mm drain holes are part of the practical wall plan

Material and nozzle ranges are screening guidance, not certification. Confirm the exact slicer profile, layer height, extrusion width, orientation and load case before printing.

Profile-specific limits

  • A supported wall can be thinner than an unsupported one. Formlabs lists a 0.2 mm process minimum, but a 0.2 mm wall is fragile during washing, support removal and post-curing.
  • Large parts need thicker walls. Size, support layout, resin type and cure schedule all change the safe value.
  • The checker measures the mesh shell. It does not place supports, add drain holes or check whether a hollow interior will trap resin.

Where this profile fits

Miniatures and display models

Small supported details can be thin, but handled parts and weapon shafts need more material. Check the thin area rather than the global minimum alone.

Small enclosures and prototypes

Use 1.0–1.5 mm walls for handled housings, and add ribs or bosses where fasteners will clamp.

Hollow display pieces

Hollowing saves resin, but keep 1.0–1.5 mm walls and add drain holes. The checker cannot confirm drainage or internal support clearance.

Wall-thickness tips

  • Use 0.5 mm only for protected small details; choose 1.0 mm or more for parts that will be handled.
  • Hollow large models with 1.0–1.5 mm walls and add at least two drain holes; check the interior with a cross-section or slicer.
  • Avoid abrupt thickness changes and sharp internal corners; add fillets to reduce stress during support removal.
